If the American people are to continue to view the federal government as legitimate, then we will continue to face suffering without purpose and ultimately a future without hope.
Partisan politics have infested virtually every agency within the federal government to a point in which the rule of law has become subjective. The subjectiveness of the law exists solely in the eyes of the government as they are held to a standard not allowed by the people.
We follow the law because of the authority we entrust in the government to do the same. When this trust is broken, repeatedly, the belief among the people that the government is legitimate, fractures.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal confirmed this growing belief as he elaborated on the growing sense of animosity felt among the people. On Saturday, Jindal spoke at a conference hosted by the Faith and Freedom Coalition in which he stated, “I can sense right now a rebellion brewing amongst these U.S. where people are ready for a hostile takeover of Washington, D.C., to preserve the American Dream for our children and grandchildren”.
The rebellion Jindal is speaking about is a rebellion against a federal government that no longer can be seen as legitimate. In other words, a rebellion against a government that has gone completely rogue.
Victor Davis Hanson of National Review points out the fact that government agencies are no longer based upon the publics interest as they have become completely political. “Dictates from the [Obama] adminstration to enact a particular ideological agenda that has no support in congress or among the public” is what our federal government has become.
Hanson also notes that government agencies will use any means necessary to “enhance the adminstration’s agenda”. Whether it means they venture into areas beyond their mandate or “simply abdicate their responsibility to enforce the law at all”, the law in the eyes of the government has become completely subjective.
Nowhere is this more apparent than within the Department of Justice beginning with the Attorney General himself, Eric Holder. Holder is the example of why the government can no longer be seen as legitimate.
In the debacle that has unfolded within the IRS targeting of select political groups, Eric holder has remained silent and unwilling to investigate the IRS. Thus allowing the IRS to continue its coverup of criminal actions. Moreover, Holder himself has stonewalled any investigation, just as he did regarding the Fast and Furious gun running scandal.
Therefore, in attempting to rid the investigation into the IRS of partisan politics, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) called on the Senate to adopt a resolution in demanding “Eric Holder appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the IRS scandal or expect impeachment”. Unfortunately, as the case stands now this is highly unlikely, but the overall picture it paints is alarming.
Cruz pointed to this as he stated, “When an Attorney General mocks the rule of law, when an Attorney General corrupts the Department of Justice by conducting a nakedly partisan investigation to cover up political wrongdoing… that conduct by any reasonable measure constitutes high crimes and misdemeanors”.
The partisan politics and ideological agenda precipitated by the IRS and the DOJ are not anomalies as they join a ever growing list of federal agencies that have blatantly disregarded the law. The list expands everyday as the power under the EPA, FBI, DHS, NSA and other various alphabet-soup agencies become ever partisan and more corrupt.
Left unchecked and unaccountable, these agencies continue to thrive as they pursue a purely ideological agenda that takes power away from the American people and is encouraged by the Barack Obama adminstration.
Obama has “made clear his willingness to act lawlessly and has encouraged his administrative agencies to do likewise”, states David Limbaugh of Town Hall. This is no secret, in fact it is encouraged by top Democratic leaders who believe unilateral changes by Obama are inevitable.
For instance, on Thursday Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) took to the Capitol to use the threat of executive action in pressing House GOP leaders to bring immigration legislation to the floor by July. Durbin stated, “I hope that Speaker Boehner will speak up…and if he does not, then the president will borrow the power that is needed to solve the problems of immigration.
Empowered by the President to act without the approval of congress, let alone the American people, Democrats such as Durbin become embolden in their pursuit to fulfill Obama’s dictates. Neglecting the question of where the president will “borrow the power” that is needed to solve the immigration issue, Durbin also conveniently sidesteps the fact that the President himself created the problem we see today at our borders.
In June 2012, the adminstration was able to stop the deportation of hundreds of thousands of illegal young adults, whom were brought here illegally before the age of 16, under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. As of June 2013, more than half a million illegal immigrants had applied for DACA with 72% having been approved, while just 1% have been denied.
Furthermore, there are estimates that another half million illegal youths and adults in the country qualify under DACA but haven’t yet applied.
Today, what we are witnessing with the flood of illegals into our country is a direct result of Obama’s unilateral action to disobey the law by choosing to not deport those who are illegally here. Needless to say, word of this spread quickly and now our borders are succumbing to this invasion.
What the border crisis tells us is something we as a people must realize; foreign countries no longer believe our federal government is legitimate due to the adminstration and their agencies subjective view of the law. In this case it is their view not to obey the law at all by protecting our borders. In other cases it is to enforce it selectively against an opposing ideological viewpoint or obstruct it strategically to protect their own.
All the while the President claims, “They’re fabricated issues” and “phony scandals” generated by Republicans to gin up their base, while in reality the credibility issues that appear to be fabricated and phony are generated by the government and the President himself.
