Remaining Silent During America’s Betrayal

Abraham Lincoln in his 1838 Lyceum address spoke of America’s betrayal in stating,”If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen we must live through all time, or die by suicide”. Call it “fear mongering” if you’d like but Americans should fear that destruction has indeed become our lot as “the lawless in spirit are encouraged to become lawless in practice”.

When Barack Obama threatens executive action via his “pen and phone” he creates a spirit of lawlessness and in the coming weeks Obama will use his pen and his phone to grant unilateral amnesty as his party has encouraged him to become lawless in practice.

Without facing any significant objection or protest from the Democratic party, the liberal media and Democratic voters, the president grows more embolden to act as lawlessly as he chooses.

The Democratic party will remain silent during this outright betrayal of America as a grave injustice will have been committed against the American people and our system of government. The establishment politicians within the Republican party will essentially do the same as they counter Obama’s threat of action with words and bills backed without any action at all.

Steve Deace of Barbwire writes, “with their combined fecklessness, gutlessness, and unwillingness to even pretend to be a true opposition party, GOP leadership has essentially allowed what amounts to one-party rule in America. Which means there has literally been nothing standing between the American people and the Marxist occupant of the White House. Thus, by hook or by crook, President Obama has gotten everything he’s wanted.”

The Democrats remain silent and the establishment Republicans virtually do the same as appearances are all that matter in politics. Obama and his party at large have become absolutely unrestrained in their pursuit of the progressive dream as they violate the Constitution and our laws without any opposition. Period.

We must fight back against this agenda as Lincoln foresaw a remedy to such a time as this. He stated, “let every American pledge his life, his property, and his sacred honor — let every man remember that to violate the law is to trample on the blood of his father, and to tear the charter of his own and his children’s liberty”.

We must be reminded that we are a country of laws not of men. We cannot allow such complacency and silence while America is betrayed.

In the words of Dinesh D’Souza, “Do we want to live in a country that no longer matters, where the American dream is a paltry and shrunken thing, where bitter complaint substitutes for real influence?”

If we remain silent “then we will have not only failed ourselves, we will have failed our children. We will have failed America when we were in a position to save her”.

Remember “decline is a choice, but so is liberty” and if destruction be our lot, I pray America choses liberty.

  1. Interesting you mention that speech. Gore Vidal mentions it in an interview about his novel Lincoln. (In Paths of Resistance : The Art and Craft of the political novel.) He interprets part of it as Lincoln maybe warning us of ambitious Lincoln, unwilling to follow any predecessor’s path but striving for his own historical glory, even “at the expense of emancipation slaves or enslaving free men?”
