Republican Capitulation Feeds Barack Obama’s Tyranny

When Barack Obama announced his plan Thursday night to mainstream millions of illegal immigrants with an executive order allowing them to remain in the United States without facing deportation he not only created a precedent, but a law in itself.

In true dictatorial fashion, Obama laid out his decree by justifying his order in wake of the “failure” of the legislative process to pass immigration reform. In defiance of the constitution and the American people, Obama declared “to those members of Congress who question my authority to make our immigration system work better, or question the wisdom of me acting where Congress has failed, I have one answer: Pass a Bill“.

Obama then went on to further lecture Congress by stating “Don’t let a disagreement over a single issue be a deal breaker on every issue. That is not how our democracy works, and Congress shouldn’t shut down our government again because we disagree on this”.

Obama’s argument essentially rests upon his well-founded belief that Congress will be unwilling to use its command over the treasury to coerce him into heeding the limits of his power.

Hal Rodgers, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, made evidently clear this week that establishment Republicans will avoid a “government shutdown” by passing a long-term funding bill, instead of a Continuing Resolution. Meaning, establishment Republicans have already given up the power of the purse.

Yet, while Republicans downplay this course of action, they champion at the notion that in “2017 Democrats will rue the day that Obama issued his executive Amnesty”. Establishment Republicans believe that a Republican President in 17′ would rescind Obama’s decree while at the same time they are essentially conceding defeat to Obama’s executive order without fighting for tomorrow.

Giving up the power of the purse to defund Obama’s Amnesty in fear of the political optics it would create is absolute capitulation on behalf of the Republican party. “If you won’t defund malfeasance”, notes Andrew McCarthy, “you have to remove it – or accept it. There is no other course”. Establishment Republicans have already made the choice to chose the latter.

The President can now make a statement essentially blackmailing Congress by threatening them to pass a bill of his choosing effectively nullifying the power of Congress as they refuse to use their constitutional power to check the President. This epitomizes the quintessential danger that is currently facing our republic. Left unchecked by Republican capitulation the assault on our constitution is allowed to continue no matter the fact that Republicans will control Congress for Obama’s last two years.

The reason the midterm elections were sweepingly won by Republicans wasn’t because of the efforts made by Republicans in name only or RINO‘s such as John McCain, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, Karl Rove, Lindsey Graham, Reince Priebus and Christ Christie to name a few. The midterms were won because of an outright repudiation of Barack Obama’s policies on behalf of the American voters. They voted for Republicans to stop Obama, not advance his agenda or conceit defeat of our constitution.

Rather than standing on conservative principles by fighting the establishment, RINO’s capitulate and severe whatever ties they may have had with the people who elected them. In joining Democrats and liberals to expand the power of the federal government by eroding the constitution, these men work tirelessly to dilute the power of grassroots conservatives and put more power in the hands of the “inside-the-beltway” Washington elite.

If Republican’s actually wanted to stop the President’s usurpation of Congress they would follow in the footsteps of Senator Ted Cruz and implement his proposed plan to stop Obama’s administrative amnesty.

Cruz outlined this plan in explaining how Congress should go about using their constitutional power under the power of the purse.”We should fund, one at a time, the critical priorities of the federal government, but also use the power of the purse to attach riders.” By riders, Cruz is referring to an appropriations bill that would fund the Department of Homeland Security but stipulate that none of the funds appropriated may be used to implement Obama’s recent executive orders. And, following Cruz’s thinking, if Obama vetoes that bill next year, it wouldn’t result in a government-wide shutdown because Congress will have passed bills funding other parts of government.

Unfortunately, as Hal Rodgers has already made clear, this option is off the table as establishment Republicans have already chosen to give up the power of the purse in stating their intentions to pass a massive spending bill. Congress is allowing Obama to box them into a situation that makes their predicament that much worse. With the power of the purse seemingly given up by Congress they are left with only one other option to reign in a President who is becoming that of a tyrant.

And we all know Congress doesn’t have the intestinal fortitude to even utter such a word and when they do their words are followed by hollow action. To see the most recent example of this look no further than Lindsey Graham who warned Obama in early June that he would face impeachment if he released anymore prisoners from Guantanamo Bay. On Thursday, the same day Obama gave his executive Amnesty speech, he also released 5 more prisoners from Guantanamo Bay. Graham followed up his threat of impeachment by effectively remaining silent.

If Republicans such as Graham and Rodgers continue to capitulate instead of fight the President he will leave them irrelevant in executive orders to come.

If you think Amnesty is where Obama stops at using his executive orders, think again because the Republican party thus far is only acting to embolden Obama. Words mean nothing when the President is ready to act.

What this truly means in the end is something that those of my generation will have to face. If neither Democrats nor Republicans take note of the precedent this President has established and the government is allowed to continue to grow without any consent from the governed, we the people will one day re-establish our natural right.

This isn’t a warning but an inevitable result of the path our “leadership” has taken us. Judge Andrew Napolitano summarizes it best with the following statement:

“I expect that when I die I will do so peacefully in my bed surrounded by people that love me, and faithful to first principles. That will not happen to everybody in this room. Some of you, particularly the young people, must be prepared to die in a government prison. And, some of you, particularly the young people, must be prepared to die in a government town square to the sound of government trumpets blaring.

When the time comes, you’ll know what to do. Because freedom lies in everyone’s heart, but it must do more than just lie there.”

  1. Do you want Biden as president? This is what would happen with impeachment. Congress needs to stop Obama in his tracks NOW. The government doesn’t need to be shut down to stop him. The people spoke at the last elections and this is want they want done. Shut him down. He is just a man not a god.
